Welcome to the Severn Valley Railway Volunteer Liaison Office

Station Staff

There is always plenty to do at our six heritage stations, whether you want to look after passengers or help with building maintenance or gardens.

Booking Office staff provide a first point of call for visitors purchasing tickets and providing them with information for their visit. Volunteers need excellent customer service skills and should be numerate.

Platform staff at stations provide a warm welcome and assistance to our visitors, ensuring they have an enjoyable experience with us. They assist with the safe arrival and departure of trains, ensure the station is kept clean and tidy and help with preparations for special events. Volunteers need to be customer friendly, patient and polite in dealing with queries from the public. Platform staff are required to wear a uniform.

Maintenance staff take care of the safe repair and upkeep of the buildings and other items around the site to ensure the heritage ambience is maintained. Work ranges from general labouring, to woodworking, painting, and plumbing.

Station gardeners maintain the various floral displays which add to the pleasant colourful environment of the station for visitors to admire.

There are catering outlets at all stations, and volunteers with catering experience are particularly welcome.

Some of these roles may merge, particularly at our smaller stations. At Highley, for example, booking office volunteers are also likely to do platform duties.

Directing the Passengers is an important role of the Station Staff.
