Visitor guide - technical

 

You will be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic ambassador for the Severn Valley Railway, sharing your expertise with visitors and helping to bring our exhibits to life. With a solid understanding of railway operations and locomotive technology, you will be able to provide in-depth information and insights to visitors about the SVR's historic rolling stock, stations, and infrastructure.

Your role will involve leading guided tours, answering questions, and providing context to the exhibits, as well as assisting with event planning and execution. You will work closely with the SVR team to ensure a high-quality visitor experience, providing exceptional customer service and contributing to the overall success of the attraction.

  • ​Provide information about the SVR's locomotives and exhibits

  • Conduct guided tours of the railway and its facilities

  • Answer questions from visitors about the railway's history, operations, and exhibits

  • Work closely with other staff to ensure a smooth visitor experience

  • Assist with special events and activities as needed

Skills/attributes required

​​

  • Strong knowledge of the SVR's history, operations, and exhibits

  • Ability to communicate complex information in an engaging and accessible way

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with the SVR's operations systems would be a plus

Training

​

On-the-job training will be provided as appropriate. You will also need to complete our Working at Height online training course.
