Visitor guide - people person
We are seeking a warm and welcoming Volunteer Visitor Guide who excels at making people feel at ease. As a Visitor Guide, you will be the first point of contact for many of our visitors, providing a friendly and helpful welcome to The Engine House. You will be responsible for meeting groups, answering questions, and directing visitors to the various exhibits and facilities within the centre. Your excellent communication skills will help to resolve any issues that may arise, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Your friendly and approachable nature will make our visitors feel valued and cared for, creating a lasting impression of their visit to The Engine House.

Greet visitors and provide general information about the SVR's facilities

Assist visitors with finding their way around the site

Handle any issues or concerns from visitors in a friendly and professional manner

Work closely with other staff to ensure a smooth visitor experience

Assist with special events and activities as needed

Skills/attributes required

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Ability to think on your feet and handle unexpected situations

Familiarity with the SVR's facilities and layout would be a plus

No prior knowledge of railways or locomotives is required, just a genuine enthusiasm for people and a willingness to learn about our site.

Training
​
On-the-job training will be provided as appropriate. You will also need to complete our Working at Height online training course.
